Persia, 1902 Provisional Typeset Issue of Teheran (5 frames)

This exhibit studies the 1902 typeset issues of Teheran. Due to the depletion of the stock of stamps printed by Enschedé of Holland and lack of funds to order a new stock, Pharos printing firm in Teheran was commissioned to produce a set of typeset stamps using regular newspaper printing method. The basic stamp was handstamped at the office of the General Director of Posts with a controlling overprint to validate their usage. These stamps were used throughout the country from early 1902 until mid 1903 at which time the new issue arrived from Enschedé.
